Pepe Represents Turkey At Unofficial Meeting Of Eu Environment And Energy Ministers

ROME - Environment and Forestry Minister Osman Pepe represented Turkey at the unofficial meeting of the European Union (EU) environment and energy ministers in Montecatini, Italy, on Saturday.
Responding questions of the A.A correspondent following the meeting, Pepe said, ''the EU member countries are determined to put into practice Kyoto Agreement which was signed by 38 countries to prevent global warming. However, the United States and the Russian Federation have not signed the agreement yet. Russia has not signed the agreement due to economic reasons. The EU countries have been trying to persuade Russia.''
''In Turkey, emission of greenhouse gases have increased by 50 percent since 1990. Works have been under way to take influential measures to reduce emission of greenhouse gases,'' he said.
Pepe said that he had the opportunity of holding bilateral meetings with his Italian and German counterparts in Italy.
He is expected to return to Turkey on Sunday.
