PEARSON: ''PKK CANNOT FIND SHELTER IN IRAQ''
U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Robert Pearson whose term in office in Ankara came to an end, said that the terrorist organization PKK could not find any shelter in Iraq. Noting that they had been waiting for approval of the Law on Return to Home, Pearson said that either members of the terrorist organization PKK would surrender to security forces or they would use military force against them.

THREE BRIGADES FOR IRAQ
During visits of Supreme Allied Commander General James Jones and U.S. Central Command Chief General John Abizaid to Ankara, the sides have reached compromise on four issues: the terrorist organization PKK/KADEK will be eradicated in northern Iraq, the U.S. side will shed green light to dispatch of three Turkish brigades to Iraq, cooperation will be set up between Turkey and the United States to prevent events like detention of Turkish soldiers, and Turkey will take part in rebuilding process of Iraq.

CHANGES TO BE MADE IN SEVENTH EU ADJUSTMENT PACKAGE
The government has taken into consideration views of the General Staff about some articles of the seventh European Union (EU) adjustment package. Some changes will be made in the package in line with views of the General Staff. However, the government insists on the arrangement removing executive characteristics of the National Security Council.

U.S. ADMINISTRATION REQUESTS SOLDIERS FROM TURKEY
During visits of Supreme Allied Commander General James Jones and U.S. Central Command Chief General John Abizaid to Ankara, the United States' request for dispatch of soldiers from Turkey was high on agenda. The sides discussed the issue of dispatch of at lest a brigade to Iraq to take place in the stability force. Meanwhile, the U.S. side is positive about Turkey's request for support for Turkey's fight against terrorist organization PKK/KADEK.

GUL DUE TO UNITED STATES
Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul will leave for the United States on July 22. During his visit to the United States, Gul is scheduled to meet with U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, President George W. Bush's National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice and U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney. During meetings of Gul with U.S. officials, the United States' request for dispatch of soldiers from Turkey will be taken up in detail. The request and proposal for a joint operation against terrorist organization PKK/KADEK will become certain during Gul's visit to the United States.

KOC HOLDING-TURK TELEKOM CONSORTIUM TO PURCHASE BULGARIAN TELECOM
The Bulgarian Privatization Agency and the Koc Holding-Turk Telekom consortium signed an agreement about sale of 65 percent of Bulgarian Telecommunications Institution which is one of the biggest state enterprises in the country's privatization program. Deputy Prime Minister and Transportation Minister Nikolai Vasilev of Bulgaria said that the Koc Holding-Turk Telekom consortium had completed meetings with Bulgarian Privatization Agency and ministries of internal affairs, defense and transportation about the sale successfully.

EUROPEAN CULTURE AWARD GIVEN TO ISTANBUL
This year's European Culture Award, which is given to those who contribute to development of intercultural dialogue, will be presented to the Istanbul Culture and Art Foundation, which organizes Istanbul Festival.

''SITUATION IN CYPRUS SHOULD BE PROTECTED''
Land Forces Staff Chairman General Ilker Basbug who came to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) to attend ceremonies to mark July 20 Peace and Freedom Day, said, ''there are four main points to make a solution in Cyprus lasting. These are: recognition of existence of two equal and sovereign states on the island, protection of political equality, protection of bizonality in Cyprus and protection of Turkey's guarantee.'' General Basbug paid visits of courtesy to President Rauf Denktas of TRNC, Parliament Speaker Vehbi Zeki Serter and Prime Minister Dervis Eroglu.

SEA PLANE HALF SINKS OFF SILE
A small sea plane half sank off Sile town of Istanbul after its propeller hit a wave and broke. Boats of Sile Municipality rescued seven passengers and crew members of the plane.

MILITARY CHANGE IN SEVENTH EU ADJUSTMENT PACKAGE
Some changes were made in the seventh European Union (EU) adjustment package in line with requests of the General Staff. According to the changes, the government will listen to views of the General Staff as appointing secretary general of the National Security Council (NSC). Meanwhile, General Staff's proposal that NSC should continue to convene once in a month was not accepted. The NSC will convene once in two months.

IRAQI CHILDREN TO BE TREATED IN TURKEY
Ministry of Health Combat Against Cancer Office Chairman Prof. Dr. Murat Tuncer said, ''nearly 120 Iraqi children suffering from cancer will be brought to Turkey for medical treatment. They will be treated in state, university and private hospitals.'' Prof. Dr. Tuncer represented Turkey at a meeting held in Jordanian capital Amman with the participation of health officials of neighboring countries with Iraq in order to assess medical treatment opportunities for Iraqi children. He said, ''weapons, which were used during the war in Iraq, have spread hazardous substances. Direct and indirect impacts of the war have left Iraqi people, especially children, face to face with the threat of cancer. There are about 1,000-1,500 children in Iraq suffering from cancer. This number is expected to increase considerably as a result of direct and indirect impacts of the war. Turkey will do its utmost for these children.''

GENERAL BASBUG WARNS GREEK CYPRIOT SIDE
Land Forces Staff Chairman General Ilker Basbug who came to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) to attend ceremonies to mark July 20 Peace and Freedom Day, said, ''we have been observing armament activities of the Greek Cypriot side. Despite all kinds of developments, the Turkish Armed Forces will continue to protect rights and interests of Turkey in the island stemming from international agreements, and to fulfill its commitments towards Turkish Cypriot people stemming from historical ties. As a result, Turkish Cypriot people will never return to the dark days of the past.''

GENERAL ABIZAID: ''SUCH AN EVENT WILL NOT OCCUR AGAIN''
U.S. Central Command Chief General John Abizaid, who paid a visit to Turkey and met with General Staff Chief General Hilmi Ozkok, said that such an event like detention of Turkish soldiers by U.S. soldiers in northern Iraq, would not occur again. General Abizaid proposed Turkey to cooperate in fight against the terrorist organization PKK/KADEK.
