Iraqi Children To Be Treated In Turkey

ANKARA - Ministry of Health Combat Against Cancer Office Chairman Prof. Dr. Murat Tuncer said on Saturday, ''weapons, which were used during the war in Iraq, have spread hazardous substances. Direct and indirect impacts of the war have left Iraqi people, especially children, face to face with the threat of cancer.''
Prof. Dr. Tuncer represented Turkey at a meeting held in Jordanian capital Amman with the participation of health officials of neighboring countries with Iraq in order to assess medical treatment opportunities for Iraqi children.
After his arrival from Amman, Prof. Dr. Tuncer told the A.A correspondent, ''there are about 1,000-1,500 children in Iraq suffering from cancer. This number is expected to increase considerably as a result of direct and indirect impacts of the war. Turkey will do its utmost for these children. Nearly 120 Iraqi children suffering from cancer will be brought to Turkey for medical treatment. They will be treated in state, university and private hospitals.''
