C.H.P. Files Suit At Constitutional Court For Annulment Of Law That Reduces Retirement Age To 61

ANKARA - Republican People's Party (CHP) filed a suit on Friday at the Constitutional Court requesting the annulment and stopping the enforcement of the law which reduced retirement age for civil servants to 61 and which foresaw gradual retirement for civil servants on Friday.
CHP deputy group chairman Oguz Oyan submitted the same day the petition on the issue to the Constitutional Court.
Speaking to the press, Oyan said that the Constitutional Court had stopped the enforcement of the first regulation that reduced retirement age from 65 to 61. Noting that AK Party adopted the new law without waiting for the decision of the Court in respect of merits of the case, Oyan claimed that the government insisted on political favouritism.
Oyan asserted that the new law was against many provisions of the Constitution, adding that reducing the retirement age to 61 deprived civil servants of the right to work. Asserting that the law would cause loss of labour, Oyan said that it was not appropriate to reduce the retirement age, while it was increased in EU countries.
