KONYA - Dr. Aydin Beyatli, the Executive Board member of the Iraqi Turkmen Front said on Friday that a person who was only an interpreter could not represent Turkmens in Iraq.
Speaking to A.A correspondent, Beyatli said that they would defend their rights in respect of law for appointment of somebody whom they would propose.
Noting that all steps had to be taken carefully within the scope of reconstruction process in Iraq, Beyatli said that wrong decisions which would be taken today could cause very serious difficulties in the future for Turkmens living in the region.
Stressing that the persons who were proposed by Shiis, Arabs and Kurds were appointed to the Iraqi government council formed by the U.S., Beyatli said that ''without taking into consideration the names we proposed, a Turkmen woman who earlier worked as an interpreter for U.S. soldiers was appointed to the government council to represent Turkmens.''
Beyatli said that the interpreter namely Songul Cabuk who didn't have experience in international politics would be insufficient in defending the rights of Turkmens in Iraq where very dangerous and important games were played.
''This appointment stemmed from misinformation of the U.S. by various circles. We'll defend our rights in respect of law for appointment of somebody proposed by us to the Iraqi Government Council. Negotiations started with the commanders in Iraq and with officials in the U.S. to compensate that mistake as soon as possible. We believe that this situation which will cause Turkmens to suffer will be corrected,'' he said.
