ANKARA - Environment and Forestry Minister Osman Pepe will leave for Italy on Friday to attend unofficial meeting of environment and energy ministers of European Union (EU) countries.
A statement of Environment and Forestry Ministry said on Thursday that the unofficial meeting of EU environment and energy ministers would be organized by Italian Environment and Soil Ministry between July 18 and 20.
New EU members, EU pre-accession countries, candidate countries, Italy's concerned ministries and European Commission will join the meeting.
The statement said that participation in the meeting was important for Turkey's integration with EU mechanisms aiming at energy security and reduction of emissions of human-oriented greenhouse gases which have reached dangerous dimensions in atmosphere.
The meeting would also be useful to establish close dialogue among EU member and candidate countries to review international situation prior to the Framework Convention on Climate Change Ninth Parties Conference to be held in Milan between December 1 and 12, 2003, the statement added.
