CANAKKALE - Norwegian-flagged Ramform Challenger, one of biggest oil exploration ships in the world, came to Turkey on Wednesday to search for oil in the Black Sea.
After it was determined that there were giant oil beds off northern Sinop province, British Petroleum and Turkish Oil Corp. (TPAO) decided to search for oil off Sinop province by the Norwegian-flagged ship for three months.
The ship which was 86 meters in length and 9,209 gross tons in weight, entered Canakkale Strait around noon.
The oil exploration ship will set sail to the Black Sea on July 20 and search for oil beds under the sea.
Turkish Oil Corp. (TPAO) signed an agreement with British oil firm BP to search for oil in the Black Sea.
A statement of Energy and Natural Resources Ministry issued on July 7 said that BP carried out geological and geophysical sea researches in the region and concluded 8,498-kilometer seismic, gravity and magnetic works.
At the end of studies, it was decided to drill two wells in 4 thousand meters depth from the base of the sea, the statement added.
