ANKARA - State Minister Ali Babacan said on Wednesday he suggested that IMF's Turkey Desk Chief Reza Moghadam to meet with representatives of small and medium scale enterprises and it was accepted.
Babacan and Moghadam visited the Association of Ankara Wholesalers of Foodstuff and Consumables (GIMAT) and listened to problems of GIMAT's officials.
Babacan told reporters that GIMAT was of great importance for food sector in Turkey and stated that they were trying to listen to problems of industrialists and representatives of real sector.
Babacan recalled that IMF delegation met with representatives of real sector in Istanbul and the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) in Ankara.
''If real sector is happy, it will bring good economic data to us,'' he stated.
Upon a question, Babacan said that they would not answer to questions concerning the fifth review today and stated that IMF officials would make statement before they departed from Turkey.
He added that most part of the fifth review work would be completed within few days.
When asked whether or not contacts in GIMAT would be evaluated within the scope of the fifth review, Babacan said, ''it is only a tour for the following period. We pursue an economic policy attributing great importance to real sector. After political stability and economic stability, it is necessary to attribute more importance to real sector. Solution of problems in real sector is one of the basic conditions for development in medium or long term.''
