ANKARA - Turkish Red Crescent sent 190 tents to quake stricken Iran to meet sheltering needs of families in Lorestan City in Iran, sources said on Saturday.
Turkish Red Crescent issued a statement and said 63 people died, 418 people were injured and 160,000 people were left homeless in the wake of an earthquake that occurred on March 31st, 2006 measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale.
Immediately after the quake, Turkish Red Crescent offered assistance to Iranian Red Crescent and a communication vehicle was sent to Gurbulak Border Pass.
The statement said Iranian Red Crescent has not made any call for international assistance following the quake in question but noted that the tents and monetary assistance could be accepted.
''Aiming to meet sheltering needs of the families in Lorestan City, 4 Red Crescent staff delivered the tents to Iran in three trucks in cooperation with International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC),'' the statement added.
