ZURICH - Appeal panel of the FIFA, world's governing body for soccer, upheld sanctions against Turkey and Switzerland for acts of violence at a World Cup playoff last year.
Kemal Kapulluoglu, acting chairman of the Turkish Football Federation, said that they would appeal to the Lausanne-based Court of Arbitration for Sport in the coming days.
Turkey won the game in Istanbul 4-2 but Switzerland advanced on away goals, sparking scuffles between players and coaching staff in the tunnel on the way to the locker room.
Turkey was ordered to play its next six competitive home matches at neutral venues without fans and pay a 200,000 Swiss franc. Turkish players Emre Belozoglu and Alpay Ozalan were each banned for six games, while coach Mehmet Ozdilek was suspended for a year.
