Turkey Signs Protocol Amending European Convention On Suppression Of Terrorism

STRASBOURG - Turkey signed on Tuesday the Protocol amending the European Convention on Suppression of Terrorism.
Ambassador Numan Hazar, Turkey's permanent representative at the Council of Europe (COE), signed the protocol on behalf of Turkey in a ceremony in which also COE officials participated.
The protocol envisages to broaden the offences in scope of the concept of fight against terrorism and brings several standards for extradition of criminals in line with human rights.
The protocol which was open for signature by the States of the COE in November 2002 envisages formation of a supervision mechanism for the convention on suppression of terrorism.
