Trnc Parliament Adopts Law That Shortens Military Service

LEFKOSA - TRNC parliament adopted on Monday the law that shortened military service.
Addressing the parliament, TRNC Prime Minister Dervis Eroglu said that they worked to shorten the military service for years.
Noting that they would deploy peace keeping forces in place of troops on the borders to overcome the problem of human resource, Eroglu said that shortening of military service was not related to Annan plan.
Eroglu stated that they informed on July 11 the military units that the period of military service was reduced to 15 months.
The law reduces military service from 22 months to 12 months for reserve officers, from 24 months to 15 months for general military service (for those who are not university graduates), from 16 months to 12 months for sergeants, and from 12 months to eight months for privates. The law will go into force on Sept. 1.
