TUNCELI - Two security officials died while another was injured in the armed attack on convoy including car of Tunceli Governor Ali Cafer Akyuz on Tuesday.
Sources told A.A correspondent that an armed attack was staged on convoy of 13 cars carrying Tunceli Governor Akyuz, Mayor Hasan Korkmaz, military personnel and some administrators in Zagge region, 30 kilometers away from eastern Tunceli province, around 2.30 p.m.
Two security officials died while another was injured in the attack.
Car carrying Governor Akyuz was taken under protection by armored vehicles in the convoy just as the assailants opened fire.
Then, Akyuz was brought to a police station, ten kilometers away from the place of the attack.
It is stated that machine guns were also used in the attack staged behind rocks in a forested area near the highway between Pulumur to Tunceli.
As the soldiers in the convoy opened fire on the assailants, the assailants stopped firing and tried to escape.
Two security officials who died in the attack were members of Tunceli Gendarmerie Commando Unit.
Sources said that they were in the first car heading the convoy and they were the first to respond to the attack.
Tunceli Gendarmerie Commando Brigade and special forces have launched a broad operation backed by the air after the attack which is thought to be staged by the terrorist organization KADEK.
Meanwhile, Tunceli Governor Akyuz left for Tunceli by two armored vehicles.
