LEFKOSA - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas said on Monday that Greek singer Lefteris Pantazis's canceling his concert in TRNC due to reactions from Greek Cypriot side and Greece was not a show of good intention and noted that those things showed real intention of Greek Cypriot side.
Denktas who received a delegation replied to questions of reporters.
Noting that Zulfu Livaneli who gave a concert in Greek Cypriot side last week wanted to go to Istanbul via TRNC and Greek Cypriots did not allow him to pass to TRNC, Denktas said, ''they did not allow Livaneli to pass to TRNC. Why? Because Livaneli would return to Istanbul via TRNC. Those things are not a show of good intention. Those things show real intention of Greek Cypriot side.''
Denktas said that Turkish people should see those things and stated that Greek Cypriot people did not give up their real aim.
''Why do they want to remove bi-zonal structure? Why don't they accept compensation and barter to solve prosperity issue? Why do they exert efforts to end Turkish guaranty? Why do they exert efforts to show us as if we were minority to the world? They should ask those questions and give answer,'' he noted.
Denktas stressed that they wanted to reach compromise and they wanted a sound agreement which would not make Turkish people suffer again as they suffered in 1963 incidents and added, ''sides should be accepted as equal and sovereign to make a sound agreement. They have to accept existence of TRNC. There is no other solution.''
Touching on a news story which claimed that ''Maras and 13 villages would be given to Greek Cypriot side'', Denktas recalled, ''it was earlier proposed to lift embargoes in return for Maras. It was earlier proposed to open Lefkosa Airport in return for Maras. There is not anything apart from it.''
