TEHRAN - ''We attach importance to improvement of our bilateral relations with Iran,'' said Gulcan Turkoglu, new Turkish Ambassador to Iran, on Wednesday.
Turkoglu submitted his diplomatic credentials to President Mahmud Ahmadi-Nejad of Iran.
Speaking at the meeting, Turkoglu highlighted importance of development of cooperation between Turkey and Iran in regard to peace, tranquillity and prosperity in the region.
''We should further improve our bilateral relations in the areas of energy, transportation, trade and sports,'' Turkoglu added.
Meanwhile, President Mahmud Ahmadi-Nejad of Iran described Turkey and Iran as two powerful countries in the Islam world.
He noted that the cooperation between the two neighboring countries was of great importance in order to resolve problems of Muslim people in the world.
Referring to Turkey's EU membership process, President Ahmadi-Nejad said that Turkey's membership would be a privilege for the EU, and expressed his pleasure with Turkey's progress.
We are in favor of further developing our cultural, economic and political relations with Turkey, he added.
