MUGLA - ''Turkey has done a lot in political and economic areas. However, Turkey still has a lot more to do,'' said Hans Jorg Kretschmer, European Union Commission's Representative to Turkey.
Kretschmer attended a conference titled ''Turkey-EU Relations As of March 2006'' today in south-western city of Mugla and informed the participants about accession talks between Turkey and the EU.
Turkey has done a lot of work to provide more freedom, rights and democracy to its citizens, told Kretschmer. ''The decision to begin entry talks was made after Turkey fulfilled the requirements of the EU,'' noted Kretschmer.
According to Kretschmer, Turkey is going through a stage in which screenings are taking place. ''We expect the screening process to be completed by October 2006,'' commented Kretschmer.
Kretschmer pointed out that the EU wants to make dialogue between non-government organizations of Turkey and EU stronger. This is to diminish the number of anti-Turkish groups within some EU countries and anti-EU factions in Turkey, stressed Kretschmer.
