WASHINGTON D.C. - Turkish Air Forces will purchase 100 new generation war planes worth 10 billion USD, Turkish Defense Industry Undersecretary Murad Bayar said on Monday.
Taking the floor in the annual meeting of the American Turkish Council (ATC) and Turkish American Business Council (TAIK) in Washington D.C., Bayar indicated that these new generation war planes would replace F-16 and F-4 aircraft, currently used by Turkish Air Forces.
Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) and Eurofighter aircraft are competing in this giant defense project of Turkey. Turkey will announce which aircraft it will prefer till the end of this year.
Bayar added that Turkey was insisting on fulfilling half of this project in its own defense industry facilities.
During his stay in the USA, Bayar will have talks with executives of the Pentagon, U.S. defense industry facilities, and Lockheed Martin, the manufacturer of JSF aircraft.
