HE ALSO LOSES HIS BANK
Seven members of Executive Board of Imar Bankasi, including Kemal and Yavuz Uzan, resigned. Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA) appointed representatives to the Board.
BRSA showed ''overcoming of administrative weakness'' as reason. Cumhur Dogan from the Executive Board will also as Director General.

DEATH OF MOUNTAINEER
Ugur Uluocak, the famous mountaineer, author of Atlas Magazine and photographer, who tried to climb the second and most dangerous summit of the world, K-2, lost his life when a lightning struck him in Teke Tor Mountain in Kyrgyzstan.
The accident happened as they descend from the 4,424 meters high mountain. 41-year old Uluocak was the second loss of Atlas Magazine after Iskender Igdir who died in Agri mountain three years ago.

THEY LEFT THE HORSE AND FLED
A first was experienced in Turkish banking history. Seven people resigned from Executive Board of the Imar Bankasi which belonged to Uzan family. Kemal Uzan, the owner of the bank, and Executive Board President is among those who resigned.
Under March balance sheet, Imar Bankasi has a loss of 108.4 trillion lira. Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA) appointed four people to the administration of the bank upon those developments. The appointment was made under the law which is about safely preventing ''failure to take required measures and endangering studies of the bank.''

NSC TO CONVENE ONCE IN THREE MONTHS
Some members of the commission proposed National Security Council (NSC) to convene once in every three months. This proposal will be discussed in the commission next week. In case this proposal is accepted and included in the 7th Adjustment Package, NSC will convene once in three months.

THURSDAY CRISIS
''Regular meetings'' between the President and the Prime Minister was not brought onto agenda for one month. The two statesmen do not meet and negotiate ''problems of the country.''
Thursday programs of President Ahmet Necdet Sezer and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan could not coincide.
Sezer and Erdogan could only see each other during National Security Council (NSC) meeting on June 26.
Opposite winds are shown as reason to chilliness between Cankaya and the government. Veto of some laws by the Presidential Palace made the Thursday meetings forgotten.

THEY SHAKE HANDS IN LONDON
Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul met with British Secretary of State Jack Straw for Foreign Affairs. Gul pointed out the importance of finding a lasting solution on Cyprus that would satisfy both sides.
Gul and Straw had joint news conference following their meeting. They said Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, and the European Union (EU) issues were discussed during their meetings.
Gul said he briefed Straw about Turkey's reform studies.
Responding to a question about Cyprus issue, Gul said, ''we have always defended that insolubility is not a solution. Our efforts in this respect continue. Reciprocal steps were taken about confidence building measures. The important thing is to find a lasting solution which will satisfy both sides.''

TUPRAS TO PURCHASE OIL FROM IRAN
TUPRAS signed an agreement regarded with purchase of six million tones of crude oil from Iran in one year. The agreement was signed in Tehran with Iranian National Oil Company NIOC. According to the agreement, TUPRAS will purchase Iranian Heavy/Light, Lavan, Blend, Bahregan and Forozan type crude oil from Iran between August 1, 2003 and July 31, 2004.

NO TURKEY PERMISSION TO KHATAMI
Bush administration, through its consultants, conveyed the message to the Iranian President Mohammad Khatami, who was getting prepared to visit Turkey in September, not to visit Turkey but instead participating in the U.N. General Assembly that would take place in New York in September.
Iranian side thinks United States was exerting efforts to prevent Tehran from setting up close dialogue with its neighbors.

GEN. OZKOK VISITS ISRAEL
Chief of General Staff Gen. Hilmi Ozkok visited Israel on Thursday as Middle East peace process passes through a critical turning point. Gen. Ozkok is the first Turkish Chief of General Staff visiting Israel after six years.
A decision had been taken to broaden military cooperation.

EU COOPERATION WITH CROATIA
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer proceeded to Croatia within the scope of his tour to the Balkans. During his meeting with Croatian President Mesic, cooperation regarded with full membership to the European Union (EU), which is a joint target of the two countries, NATO membership of Croatia, and bilateral relations were discussed.
Sezer said, ''implementation of Free Trade Agreement between our countries on July 1, and convening of Turkish-Croatian Business Council in Zagreb are important developments.''

MANY FILES EXTENDING FROM TURKBANK TO TEKEL TO BE NEGOTIATED AGAIN
Parliamentary Commission to Investigate Corruption, as a result of its four month study, asked an investigation to be opened against Mesut Yilmaz, a former Prime Minister, for ''Turkbank''.
There are various accusations against Husamettin Ozkan, Recep Onal, Sukru Sina Gurel, Eyup Asik, Zekeriya Temizel, and Yasar Okuyan in the report which will be presented to Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc today.

WE GOT THE FIRST JOB IN IRAQ
Turkish companies, which started to sell goods to Iraq directly, got the first share in re-construction of Iraq. Istanbul based Gunay Construction Company undertook re-construction of the runway of Baghdad Airport, which was bombed by the U.S. planes.

ONE SOLDIER DIES IN TERRORIST ATTACK
One soldier died and two others were injured in terrorist attack in Tokat province.
The incident happened late on Thursday when terrorists opened gunfire on security forces in Topcam region. Fatih Gunes, the soldier, died in the first shots. The other soldiers Muhammet Dumlu and Erman Oruc were immediately hospitalized.

INFLATION REDUCES MORE THAN EXPECTED IN JUNE
State Statistics Institute (DIE) said on Thursday that wholesale prices index (WPI) decreased by 1.9 percent and consumer prices index (CPI) decreased by 0.2 percent in June.
The statement said annual inflation in WPI was 29.6 percent, and CPI was 29.8 in 2003.
Rate of inflation in the first half of the year was 11.5 percent in WPI and 12.0 percent in CPI. Meanwhile, it was reported that annual inflation according to 12 months average as of June was calculated as 35.4 percent in WPI and 31.7 in consumer prices. The core inflation was 0.2 percent in June.
