President Signs Decree On Military Service

ANKARA - President Ahmet Necdet Sezer approved the decree on decrease in periods of military service.
Sources said on Tuesday that the decree had been sent to the Prime Ministry.
The decree envisages to shorten 18-month military service of privates to 15 months, 16-month military service of reserve officers to 12 months and 8-month military service of short-term privates to 6 months as of July 15, 2003.
The decree will take effect after it is published in the Official Gazette.
