ANKARA - State Minister Guldal Aksit said on Tuesday that Turkey was ahead of other countries in participation of women in private sector and economy and equal salary implementation compared with the men's salaries.
Aksit, who attended 2003 World Women's Summit held in Morocco between June 28 and 30, spoke to A.A correspondent by phone that she attended ''Woman Ministers Round Table Meeting'' which brought together ministers from 40 different countries.
Businesswomen, woman academicians, representatives of non-governmental organizations and 40 woman ministers coming around the world participated in the summit, Aksit said.
Aksit stated that they discussed women's problems in the summit.
They exchanged views on increase of women entrepreneurship, practices increasing dynamism of women joining world market, taking successful business steps, and formation of regional and international network during the summit, Aksit pointed out.
Aksit emphasized that all women faced similar problems and the meeting was very beneficial for Turkey.
Noting that she compared social situation of Turkish women with that of women of other countries, Aksit said that Turkey was behind some countries in some issues and ahead in some other issues.
Turkey was behind other countries in regard with the number of woman parliamentarians because there was quota for woman parliamentarians in other countries, Aksit stated.
Aksit gave Morocco as an example where women should constitute 35 percent of the total number of parliamentarians.
However, Turkey was ahead of other countries in participation of women in private sector and economy and equal salary implementation compared with the men's salaries, Aksit pointed out.
Aksit stated that women doing the same thing were given less salary in some countries.
Sessions were held on establishment of strategic network, strengthening labor associations of women, and online-business within the scope of the summit, Aksit said.
Aksit noted that decisions taken in those sessions would be announced by a final statement.
''I would like to convey the views expressed during my meetings with representatives of other countries to non-governmental organizations when I return to Turkey,'' Aksit said.
Aksit emphasized that Turkish non-governmental organizations and women's associations should also participate in such meetings.
''Such work will ensure women to join economy and gain social rights. Women can overcome problems by coming together in certain organizations,'' Aksit added.
