EDIRNE - ''The government is working hard to minimize the damages of the flood disaster,'' said Turkish Agriculture & Rural Affairs Minister Mehmet Mehdi Eker on Wednesday.
Visiting Ipsala town and Yeni Karpuzlu hamlet in northwestern city of Edirne which was hit by a flood disaster last week, Eker said that around 800 houses were evacuated as a precaution, and it prevented any loss of life.
Eker indicated that Turkish and Bulgarian governments were discussing possible measures to prevent such flood disasters.
Floods hit Edirne last week after Bulgaria opened its floodgates due to torrential rains. Flood waters submerged Edirne's Karaagac district and the roads in the district were closed to traffic while many houses had to be evacuated.
