ANKARA - Justice and Development Party (AK Party) Parliamentary Group Deputy Chairman Salih Kapusuz said on Monday that any amendment to the Constitution under the seventh package of adjustment with the European Union (EU) was out of question.
Speaking to the parliament reporters, Kapusuz said that the parliament would work under an intense agenda in July, and it would recess after making legal arrangements to which the government gave priority.
Noting that the National Program would be discussed at the Parliamentary General Assembly on Tuesday, Kapusuz said that 59-page summary of the 900-page National Program had been distributed to deputies.
Stating that they planned to legalize in July the seventh adjustment package which included necessary amendments to several laws in EU adjustment process, Kapusuz said, ''but this package does not include any amendment to the Constitution.''
Stressing that support of the Republican People's Party (CHP) was needed for a constitutional change, Kapusuz said the CHP maintained its insistence. ''A state policy like the EU can't be left hanging in the air. If the CHP gives peace to its deputies, I am certain that the result would be different.''
Noting that the parliament would work under an intense agenda between July 14-20, Kapusuz said that they had warned all deputies to be in Ankara during that period.
Stating that the bill which reduced the age of eligibility to be a deputy from 30 to 25 and the bill on amendment to the Constitution about forestry would be discussed this week, Kapusuz said that also the legal arrangement called 'reassociation law' might be taken up this week.
