LEFKOSA - 'Police Day' celebrations were held in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Monday to mark the 39th anniversary of the foundation of the Turkish Cypriot police organization.
A delegation headed by TRNC Police Chief Erdem Demirbag separately visited TRNC Parliament Speaker Zeki Serter, Turkish Ambassador to the TRNC Hayati Guven, TRNC Prime Minister Dervis Eroglu and TRNC State Minister for Culture and Tourism and Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Denktas.
Speaking at the meeting, Serter said that they had a police force worthy of esteem in every aspect.
Meanwhile, Guven said that police worked with determination and enthusiasm to maintain peace at highest level in the TRNC.
Stressing that police force's performance especially during the process that had started after April 23 was beyond every appreciation, Guven said cooperation between the Turkish Embassy and the police organization would continue.
Meanwhile, TRNC Prime Minister Eroglu said that police and security forces protected lives of Turkish Cypriots.
Eroglu said, ''police organization has undertaken important role in protection of lives of Turkish Cypriots since they were expelled from the 'Cyprus Republic'. There has been a need for police since the start of free passages between the two sides in Cyprus.''
Meanwhile, State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Denktas said, ''police officers serve under very difficult conditions. The politeness of police officers in recent period is worth of appreciation. I want to thank them for their sincere efforts since the start of free passages.''
