Gul: I Hope The 7th Adjustment Package To Be The Last Package

ANKARA - Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said on Thursday that he hoped the 7th package to be the last package.
Gul, who met with members of Parliamentary Adjustment Commission in Secretariat General for the EU, told reporters before the meeting that the commission was newly set up and that it would be one of the commissions of the Parliament which work very intensely.
Stating that Turkey would start negotiations after meeting Copenhagen political criteria, Gul said there was a critical period in front of Turkey. Gul said, ''we will work intensely. We are in an effort to show the whole world that we fulfilled Copenhagen criteria.''
Gul said the National Program would be conveyed to NGOs and the opposition after giving the final shape, and noted that it would later be taken up in the Parliament. He said their target was to provide participation of everybody.
''National Program is the road map and commitment of Turkey in entrance to the EU,'' Gul said, adding that they planned to allocate the year 2003 for necessary legal arrangements and to intensify on the implementation in 2004.
Foreign Minister Gul said they wished the 7th package to be the last package, noting that with this package, Turkey would announce that it was ready to start negotiations.
Responding to a question about the meeting with the State Planning Institute (DPT) officials, Gul said the National Program was prepared with the contribution of all related institutions, and that Secretariat General for the EU undertook assignment of coordination.
