ERDEMLI - The wide number of oak-trees in southern city of Mersin's Erdemli and Gulnar towns is due to the presence of a useful insect in the region, said sources today.
Mersin Forestry Region Manager Nihat Oz has remarked that a two-year study by Assoc. Prof. Mustafa Coskun from the Cukurova University and Assoc. Prof. Nicklas Jansson from Swedish Linkoping University has been completed.
''According to the two scientists, a newly discovered group of insects contribute to the existence of oak-trees in the Mersin forests,'' said Oz.
''We will announce the name of the newly discovered insect at the end of the year, in a congress to be held at Izmir,'' noted Oz.
