AMMAN - World Economic Forum Managing Director Frederic Sicre said on Wednesday that they exert efforts to hold a summit in Turkey in the coming period. Sicre said they would visit Turkey in September to assess how the forum meeting could take place, and to meet with government and private sector representatives.
Speaking to A.A correspondent, Sicre said interest of the forum to Turkey increased.
Sicre stated that they had planned to hold Davos meeting, held in Greece, in Turkey if there was not Iraq war. He said they had to hold the meeting in Greece because of the uncertainty created by Iraq war.
Sicre said Davos had been very important for Turkey in the period of defunct president Turgut Ozal, stressing that the period between Ozal and Justice and Development Party (AK Party) would be remembered as a period in which Turkey forgot Davos.
Stressing that they were amazed over the interest of Turkish government to European Union, Sicre said they would exert necessary support to Turkey on the way to EU.
Sicre said they were effected by the democratic examination which Turkey had given particularly in Iraq war.
Underlining that Davos was not a fair field, Sicre described the meetings as a field of lobby in which the countries promoted themselves.
Sicre said almost all the countries wanted to participate in WEF meetings, noting that even Syria participated in the meeting in Amman with a delegation.
Sicre said the Forum meetings created important outcomes for peace in the Middle East, adding that they wanted Turkey to attend such kind of meetings as Turkey has a very strategical location in its region.
Recalling that there were more than 2000 participants in meetings in Amman, Sicre said Turkey had attended with ministers and many businessmen to the meeting.
Sicre said Turkey could form a model in the region with its democratic structure.
