133 Thousand Tourists Visit Ancient City Of Troy

CANAKKALE - A total of 133 thousand 335 Turkish and foreign tourists visited the ancient city of Troy in northwestern province of Canakkale in the last three months.
Provincial Directorate of Tourism and Culture officials told the A.A on Sunday that a total of 133 thousand 335 Turkish and foreign tourists visited Kilitbahir Castle, and ancient cities of Troy and Assos in the last three months.
The province obtained an income of 331 billion 425 million Turkish lira from these ancient sites.
Excavations in the ancient city of Troy identified a sequence of nine principal stratas representing nine periods, in which houses were built, occupied and ultimately destroyed. Troy VIIa, which was destroyed by fire sometime about the 13th century BC, is probably the city of King Priam described in Homer's Iliad. Homer immortalized Troy in the stories of King Priam, Hector, Paris and the beautiful Helen. A symbolic wooden Trojan horse commemorates the legendary war.
