AMMAN - Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul, who is currently in Jordan to attend the World Economic Forum meetings, met on Sunday with United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan.
The meeting at Amman's Sheraton Hotel lasted nearly twenty minutes.
Besides United Nations Special Envoy to Iraq Sergio Viero de Mello, Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials were also in attendance at the meeting.
GUL ASKS ANNAN TO EXERT EFFORTS TO LIFT EMBARGO IMPOSED ON TRNC
Diplomatic sources told the A.A correspondent on Sunday that Gul referred to mutual steps taken by the two sides in Cyprus, and stressed that embargo imposed on the TRNC should be lifted absolutely.
Gul stressed that Turkey was ready to provide all opportunities for implementation of the resolution of the United Nations Security Council no: 1483 in a healthy way.
Meanwhile, Annan told Gul at the meeting that an interim authority government be formed in Iraq as soon as possible adding that Iraqi people should be sovereign in their country in the long term.
Annan highlighted importance of close relations between Turkey and Iraq in the rebuilding process.
Giving information about Turkey's efforts to assist Iraq, Gul reiterated, ''we are ready to mobilize our all opportunities for implementation of the resolution of the United Nations Security Council no: 1483.''
