ANKARA - The State Institute of Statistics (DIE) said that 2 thousand 486 new companies and 2 thousand 642 new firms with a total capital of 123 trillion 966 billion 439 million Turkish liras (TL) were established in May of 2003 while 913 firms were liquidated.
Releasing a statement, the DIE said that 1 thousand 809 companies had increased their capital by 2 quadrillion 215 trillion 68.3 billion TL.
In May of 2003, 12 companies with total capital of 1 trillion 957.8 billion TL have changed their status.
Numbers and fields of activity of the newly established companies are as follows: 878 wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles, and household items, 614 manufacturing, 241 construction, 219 real estate services, 199 transport, storage, communication, 84 hotels and restaurants, 53 medical and social services, 53 finance, 50 other community, social and personal services, 22 agriculture, hunting, forestry, 45 education, 18 mining and quarrying, 4 the administrative activites of goverment, defence obligatory social security, 2 electricity, gas, water and 4 fishing.
Numbers and fields of activity of the liquidated companies are as follows: 94 manufacturing, 107 wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles, and household items, 38 construction, 25 real estate services, 22 transport, storage, communication, 19 medical and social services, 14 finance, 7 hotels and restaurants, 4 other community, social and personal services, 3 agriculture, hunting, forestry, 1 electricity, gas, water and 1 mining and quarrying.
