ANKARA - The State Institute of Statistics (DIE) announced that a total of 35 thousand 918 motor vehicles were registered while 3 thousand 445 motor vehicles were withdrawn from the records in January-March period of 2003.
In the same period last year, 18 thousand 464 motor vehicles were registered while 2 thousand 928 motor vehicles were withdrawn from the records.
Automobiles took the first place with 45.1 percent followed by small trucks with 33.8 percent, motorcycles with 8.9 percent and trucks with 3.6 percent among all motor vehicles registered in the first three months of 2003.
Minibus, bus, road construction, work machinery and special purpose vehicles constituted 8.6 percent of all registered in the January-March period of 2003.
By the end of March of 2003, of all registered motor vehicles, automobiles have 61.5 percent share; motorcycles have 14 percent share; small trucks have 11.8 percent share; trucks have 5.3 percent share; and minibus, bus, road construction, work machinery and special purpose vehicles have 7.4 percent share.
The motor vehicles registered in the January-March period of 2003 were concentrated in the provinces of Adana, Ankara, Antalya, Bursa, Denizli, Gaziantep, Hatay, Mersin, Istanbul, Izmir and Samsun.
The rate of motor vehicles in these selected provinces is 70.0 percent.
In term of usage, 95.5 percent of automobiles, minibus, bus, small truck and truck is private, 4.4 percent is commercial and 0.1 percent is official.
The trademarks of motor vehicles registered first time in January-March period of 2003 are as follows: Renault 26.0 percent, Opel 13.4 percent, Tofas 11.1 percent, Volkswagen 8.7 percent, Peugeot 8.3 percent, Ford 5.9 percent and others 26.6 percent.
