ANKARA - Acting Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said on Tuesday that the sixth European Union (EU) adjustment package would be enacted this week.
Responding questions of journalists following his meeting with President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, Gul said, ''recently, I attended many meetings about Turkish foreign policy. During today's meeting, I informed President Sezer on important issues in foreign policy.''
When asked whether or not the sixth adjustment package was brought onto agenda of the meeting, Gul said, ''yes, the package was taken up. The package will be enacted this week.''
Upon a question about broadcast in mother tongue, Gul said, ''the package includes this issue. It has already been submitted to the parliament. Now, authorized institutions will take a decision.''
Responding a question about works on the seventh adjustment package, Gul told reporters, ''we have been trying to prepare the adjustment package one after the other to fulfill Copenhagen criteria as soon as possible.''
Meanwhile, sources said that Gul was scheduled to meet with United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan and Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom of Israel during his visit to Jordan.
Together with State Minister Ali Babacan, Gul will leave for Jordan on Friday to attend World Economic Forum meetings.
