PARIS - National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul met on Monday with Defense Minister Michele Alliot-Marie of France in Paris.
Responding questions of Turkish journalists, Alliot-Marie said that the meeting had focused on developments in Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan.
Recalling that she had an opportunity to meet with Gonul during spring term meetings of NATO Defense Ministers in Brussels last week, Alliot-Marie said that efforts to resolve humanitarian problems in Iraq was brought onto agenda of their meeting.
Noting that Turkish and French troops had worked together to settle peace in some regions such as Afghanistan and Kosovo, Alliot-Marie stressed that both Turkey and France were sensitive about peace.
Pointing out that relations between Turkey and France were taken up at the meeting, Alliot-Marie said that these relations were based on historical traditions and sound grounds.
Alliot-Marie added that cooperation between Turkey and France in defense industry was also discussed.
Gonul is expected to return to Turkey on Wednesday after wrapping up his visit to France.
