IZMIR - Two people who were the members of the terrorist organization MLKP were captured on Monday in connection with explosion that occurred in building of Star daily in western Izmir province.
Sources said that a wide-scale operation was launched after the fragmentation bomb planted on the basement of the building of Star daily in Izmir last Saturday had been exploded.
Experts who investigated the pieces of the bomb saw that there were similarities between that bomb and those used in the explosions that had occurred in Izmir and western Manisa province in the last six months.
Intelligence and anti-terrorism teams found out that the bombers were hiding in Davutlar region of Kusadasi town.
Sami O., 25, and Ibrahim A., 23, who were the members of the terrorist organization MLKP, were captured in Davutlar.
Materials used in production of fragmentation bomb were found in the house where the members of the terrorist organization were hiding.
Sami O. had earlier been sentenced to capital punishment on charges of ''carrying out activities on behalf of the terrorist organization TKEP-L and sent to Tekirdag prison. His punishment was commuted into life imprisonment.
Sami O. later started death fast and he was freed for treatment in 2001 after his state of health became critical.
He did not return to prison after he had recovered and a ''search warrant'' was issued regarding him.
Ibrahim A. was a student of the Dokuz Eylul University in Izmir.
Security officials stated that the suspects had been the assailants of throwing explosives on Bornova Court House, Citibank, British Consulate in Izmir and Manisa Police Department and some bomb attacks in Bursa and Bodrum.
The suspects will be transferred to State Security Court.
A bomb exploded on the basement of a commercial building in which the office of Star Newspaper was present, in western Izmir province on Saturday. No casualties were reported.
The windows of the building were broken during the explosion. The employees went out in panic.
