Gul Speaks With Papandreou By Telephone

ANKARA - Acting Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul spoke with Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou by telephone on Friday evening, sources said.
Sources said that Gul who talked to Papandreou on phone to discuss Greece's allegations which said that Turkish war planes violated Greek airspace over the Aegean Sea conveyed Turkey's views to Papandreou during conversation. Gul told him that the issue should be solved between the two countries by dialogue.
Foreign Minister Gul told Papandreou that ''we should be calm'' and proposed that a ''joint work'' should be launched for solution of the problem.
Sources said that Gul sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell.
Gul said in his letter that Turkey could take an active role in peace process in Middle East and reiterated that Turkey wanted to host peace conference.
Foreign Minister Gul stated in his letter that Turkey was ready to make contribution for ''normalization of life in Iraq'' and added that the Turkey could extend support in water, electricity and telephone.
