Foreign Ministry Says Inclusion Of Turkey In Third Category Countries In Trafficking In Persons Report Of U.S Department Of State Is Considered Disappointing

ANKARA - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Thursday that inclusion of Turkey in ''third category'' countries which made no significant efforts to stop human trafficking in the trafficking in persons report of the U.S. Department of State was considered disappointing.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement noting that Turkey took radical measures in fight against human trafficking for a year and removed all shortcomings in its legal infrastructure on that issue.
Noting that Turkey passed basic laws which made international contracts and protocols on that field a part of domestic law and started to implement those laws, the statement said that information regarding measures which were taken on that issue was also conveyed in detail to the United States.
The Ministry said that not making necessary correction about Turkey in the report showed that the report was prepared without being based on objective data.
Turkey was mentioned with 14 countries that made no significant efforts to stop human trafficking in the annual trafficking in persons report of the U.S. Department of State.
