GENERAL STAFF DENIES ALLEGATIONS ABOUT HARASSMENT OF PASSENGER PLANE OVER AEGEAN BY TURKISH F-16 PLANES
General Staff denied the news stories about harassment of a passenger plane belonging to Greek Airways Olympic over Aegean by Turkish F-16 planes. General Staff Secretariat General said that it had been observed that number of Greek media's news reports which quoted Greek authorities as saying that 'Turkish planes violated Greek airspace' over the Aegean, had increased significantly. Noting that lastly, some news reports of Greek origin had defended that Turkish planes harassed a civilian airways plane over Aegean, the statement said, ''this news is totally wrong and it is a provocation. Flying ten kilometers away from a civilian plane is neither violation nor harassment.''

GAME OF DIASPORA
Assembly of Turkish-American Associations (ATAA) President Ercument Kilic said that American and French companies had insurance policies which belonged to Armenians in Ottoman period. Kilic said that Armenians who lived in countries excluding Turkey were planning a compensation game against Turkey and warned Turkish officials to be careful about the issue. ''One French and two American companies have insurance policies which belonged to Armenians in Ottoman period. Those policies were worth about 10 million U.S. dollars between 1875-1923. But, those policies are worth trillions of U.S. dollars now.'' Kilic said that if necessary measures were not taken, Armenians could demand compensation from insurance companies and those companies could demand compensation from Turkey.

CAN FLYING 10 KILOMETERS AWAY FROM PLANE BE HARASSMENT?
When Greece claimed that Olympic Airlines plane en route from Athens to Istanbul was harassed by Turkish jets, General Staff published a statement yesterday morning denying the news story. General Staff said its statement that ''this news story is totally wrong, and it is a provocation. Flying ten kilometers away from a civilian plane is neither violation nor harassment.''

WORDS OF GUL PLEASE POWELL
U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell praised the messages given by Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul during the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) meeting in Tehran, Iran and expressed his hope of Turkey's continuing to give such messages. Powell wrote a letter to his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul and praised the messages given by Gul during OIC meeting. Gul stated in Tehran that OIC countries had to first of all put their own internal issues in order, calling for transparency, respect for basic rights and freedoms and woman-man equality.

EU SPEED FOR ADJUSTMENT PACKAGE
Council of Ministers decided to submit the Sixth Adjustment Package to Parliament until Thessaloniki Summit of the European Union (EU) which would be held on June 21. The Sixth Adjustment Package was taken up in Council of Ministers meeting yesterday. Members reached a consensus to exclude paragraphs regarding broadcast in mother tongue at private channels, showing places of worship in apartments and the 8th Article of Anti-Terrorism Act. The package was decided to be submitted to Parliament until EU Thessaloniki Summit on June 21.

VETO FROM PRESIDENT SEZER TO TRT
The government will change Supreme Board of Radio and Television (RTUK) law and determine a new director general candidate for Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT). President Ahmet Necdet Sezer returned back the cabinet decision on approval of Senol Demiroz as the Director General of TRT.

ERDOGAN MAKES PEOPLE WAIT
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is generally late to his official appointments. Erdogan who kept waiting Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Ugur Ziyal for 2,5 hours last week, was also late to his meeting with TRNC Prime Minister Dervis Eroglu yesterday. Eroglu waited for Erdogan for 20 minutes as AK Party group meeting lasted longer.

DILEMMA OF SOUTHERN CYPRUS
The border which separates the north and the south in Cyprus loses its meaning day by day. Since the opening of border gates by TRNC last April, thousands of Turkish and Greek Cypriots visited the other side and they started to leave behind their concerns and prejudices. Now everybody is trying to find the answer of whether the new atmosphere in the relations could bring a lasting peace and solution. For Greek Cypriots who lived under the trauma of the past and the intensive propaganda against Turkey for years, many myths ended after the beginning of free passages between the two sides.

BAKU-CEYHAN IS NOT A MYTH, IT IS REAL
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer said that Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline myth had almost become a reality, adding, ''loading of the first tanker which will carry Caspian oil from Ceyhan in the first half of 2005 is our concrete target.'' Making opening remark of the ''Tale of Three Seas: Energy Conference'', Sezer emphasized that new cooperation process which started in energy field in the region had reached an irreversible step.

AGRICULTURE MINISTER TO LEAVE FOR THE UNITED STATES
Agriculture and Rural Affairs Minister Sami Guclu will go to the United States on June 19 after the visit of Foreign Affairs Ministry Undersecretary Ugur Ziyal to the United States on June 15. Guclu will sign agricultural cooperation agreement and attend Ministerial Conference and Expo On Agricultural Science and Technology.

DENKTAS: ''TRNC WILL NOT JOIN EU''
Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas said that they would solve all problems within two years. Stating that Greece was using Greek Cypriots to spoil Turkish-Greek balance, Denktas said that Greece opened the door of the European Union (EU) for ''Enosis''. Denktas said that TRNC would never enter from this door. Denktas stressed that if Turkey defended Cyprus issue in a sound way, EU would reconsider the issue.

PRESIDENT SEZER RETURNS BACK DECISION ON APPOINTMENT OF DEMIROZ AS TRT DIRECTOR GENERAL
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer returned back the cabinet decision on approval of Senol Demiroz as the Director General of Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT). The decree was sent back to the Prime Ministry the same day. The cabinet had appointed Senol Demiroz as TRT Director General among the three candidates elected by Supreme Board of Radio and Television (RTUK).

SIXTH ADJUSTMENT PACKAGE SENT TO PARLIAMENT
The Council of Ministers decided to send the sixth adjustment package to the parliament. The government took out the provision on opening of place of worship in apartments to overcome misunderstandings. The cabinet meeting lasted for 6.5 hours. Government Spokesman Cemil Cicek said that they decided to transfer the package to the parliament. ''Can the bill be amended in the parliament?'' asked journalists to Cicek who said that the main aim was to broaden the freedoms and to increase the standard of democracy in Turkey to the level in EU countries. ''I believe the parliament will show the sensitivity of the government,'' he added.

FORMER MILITARY CONSULTANT OF RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS FOUNDS PARTY IN TRNC
Retired Colonel Oguz Kalelioglu, who was the consultant of former head of Religious Affairs Mehmet Nuri Yýlmaz during the Feb. 28 process, founded a political party in TRNC. Kalelioglu looks for a building to make it the headquarters of his party namely ''Cyprus Justice Party.'' Kalelioglu will compete with ten parties during the elections that will be held in December in TRNC.
