ANKARA - U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell thanked Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul for his messages in the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) in Tehran, sources said on Tuesday.
Diplomatic sources said that Powell sent a letter to Gul after the OIC 30th Term Foreign Ministers Meeting which was held in Tehran, Iran on May 28-29.
In his letter, Powell said that the United States appreciated Gul's speech in the conference and stated that messages included in Gul's speech should continue to be given.
In his speech in OIC Foreign Ministers Meeting, Gul stressed that Islamic countries should act with a new vision and said, ''this should be a vision where better management and transparency prevail, basic rights, freedom and gender equality are regarded as superior values and rude rhetoric and slogans don't have place. Consequently, we should firstly put our domestic affairs in order.''
