ANKARA - Agriculture and Rural Affairs Minister Sami Guclu received on Tuesday U.S. Ambassador in Ankara Robert Pearson.
After the meeting which lasted nearly 45 minutes, Guclu told reporters that Pearson's term in office would end in the end of July and the meeting was a farewell visit.
Guclu said that he would go to Washington on June 19 to attend the meeting of agriculture ministers and he would visit an agriculture technology fair and agriculture centers and institutions which had similar climate conditions with Turkey's during this visit. He added, ''I will find the opportunity to examine technologies and current condition in this country which is developed in the aspect of agriculture.''
Noting that they took up joint investment between two countries in agriculture field, scientific cooperation, investments for Southeastern Anatolian Project (GAP) region and the broadening of the project, which was continuing in Afghanistan, in surrounding countries regarding the restructuring of agriculture in the meeting, Guclu said that they would discuss those issues again after his visit to the United States. He emphasized that there was a big potential in the aspect of cooperation in agricultural issues between two countries.
Pearson said that they evaluated Turkish-American agricultural cooperation facilities before the visit of Guclu to the United States. He added that scientific and technical cooperation could be made to increase one billion dollars of trade volume between the two countries.
