BAKU - An official ceremony was held on Wednesday at the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry in honor of Gendarmerie Commander General Sener Eruygur who came to Azerbajani capital Baku, Azerbaijan yesterday on an official visit.
Following the official ceremony, Azerbajani Defense Minister Sefer Abiyev received Eruygur.
Speaking at the meeting, Abiyev said that Turkey and Azerbaijan started cooperation in every field including military after Azerbaijan had gained its independence.
''Today, Turkey is the state which helps the Azerbaijani armed forces the most. So we are grateful to Turkish people and government,'' he said.
Abiyev added that after operation of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum natural gas pipeline, Turkey and Azerbaijan would have closer ties.
Meanwhile, General Eruygur said, ''Turkey and Azerbaijan attribute great importance to each other. Because we speak the same language and we have same religion and history. In coming years, our two sister countries will have more closer ties.''
Meanwhile, Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said that relations between the two countries were been discussed at the meeting.
