MADRID - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, who is currently in Madrid for NATO foreign ministers' spring term meetings, and Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou discussed on Wednesday Turkey's European Union (EU) process and bilateral relations.
Following his meeting with Papandreou, Gul told reporters that Papandreou and he exchanged views on Turkey's EU process, bilateral relations and new European Constitution.
When reminded problems which took place regarding the airspace between Turkey and Greece, Gul said, ''there are some problems from time to time. But we believe that those problems will be solved through mutual confidence.''
When asked whether there was any development on discussing the confidence building measures within the scope of NATO, Gul said that Papandreou and he didn't need to take up this issue, because diplomats were carrying out necessary studies on that issue.
Papandreou said that Greece, as the term president of EU, supported Turkey's efforts on the path of EU and stated that they considered the sixth adjustment package positive. He added that the implementation of the package was also very important.
Noting that Gul and he took up new European Constitution and conference issues between governments, Papandreou said that Gul could visit Athens after Greece handed over its term presidency.
Upon the question on airspace, Papandreou said that he hoped that Turkey and Greece would solve all problems within the scope of international rules.
