LEFKOSA - TRNC President Rauf Denktas responded on Wednesday to the words of Lord David Hannay, the British Special Representative to Cyprus saying that ''none of the words of TRNC President Denktas are true.''
Denktas stated that Hannay was obliged to protect his own work of art, adding that his own mission was to protect the state which was set up with sacrifice.
Speaking to reporters, Denktas said that ''which one of my words are not true? Isn't the map correct, or isn't the fact that 60,000 Greek Cypriots will settle here and so 60,000 of our people will be migrants true? If we accept the map, 55,000 of our people will migrate immediately, isn't this true? Lord Hannay is obliged to protect his own work of art, we on the other hand is obliged to protect the state which we set up with sacrifice. This people rejected any formula which does not take into consideration the state, and which does not respect the sovereignty of Turkish Cypriots. It is our right to reject Annan plan and to protect our state. We will continue to use our right.''
Criticizing those who want to bring onto agenda Annan plan again, Denktas stated that ''this plan aims to end our state. If we don't claim ownership on our sovereignty and state, we will be minority whatever right they give us. The future of minority, like the case in Greece is known in all parts of the world. You can't include Turkish Cypriots, who founded its state and who claimed ownership on its sovereignty into the Greek Cypriot administration as minority.''
When reminded that common training period was foreseen for judges of both sides in EU Commission's package, Denktas said that ''we are ready to do everything that will be on equal basis as long as our existence, state, judiciary are accepted.''
Denktas said that ''the Greek Cypriot side which could not make this people give in for 40 years, can't do it today. We are ready to be friends on equal conditions. But no result can be taken unless they show us as the people of 'fake state.''
