AH- Chris Patten, EU Commissioner Responsible for Foreign Affairs, said in his statement in the To Vima newspaper issued in Athens that, Europe had important strategic advantages in Turkey.
Mentioning the statements of U.S. Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz about Turkey, Patten said that those were wrong statements and that in the coming years Turkey would play a key role in the relations between international society and Islam countries. Patten stated that Turkey, which was a Muslim society, strived to be democratic and tried to seek an appropriate situation for her.
Patten said that, governments in Turkey should have relations with military authorities like the other European countries.
Stressing that the Turkish government aimed at economical and political reforms, Patten said that he believed to the current government.
