ISTANBUL - A group of members of several non-governmental organizations held a demonstration in Beyoglu district of Istanbul on Sunday and called on the United States to withdraw from the Middle East.
Nearly 200 people gathered in a park near the U.S. Consulate in Istanbul.
They chanted slogans against the United States.
Association of Labor Unions in Istanbul Term Spokesman Ekber Isik said that they held a demonstration to protest the U.S. military action in Iraq, and added, ''people in the Middle East will settle peace in their region. We want the United States to withdraw from the region. U.S. bases in Turkey and the region should be closed down.''
Later, the group dispersed peacefully.
