ANKARA - The State Institute of Statistics (DIE), in the extent of the environmental statistics, declared the statistics on air pollution related to the sulphurdioxide and particulate matter (smoke) concentrations of provincial and district centers in Turkey in the winter season of 2002-2003.
According to the data of the State Institute of Statistics, provincial and district centers having the maximum sulphurdioxide concentrations in the winter season of 2002-2003 are as follows in descending order; Kutahya, Erzurum, Elazig, Edirne and Samsun.
For the same period, provincial and district centers having the maximum particulate matter concentrations in descending order stated as; Kutahya, Kayseri, Diyarbakir, Zonguldak and Isparta.
Provincial and district centers, having the maximum rate of increase in the sulphurdioxide concentration in the winter season of 2002-2003 compared to the previous winter season are; Nigde with 125 percent, Manisa with 54 percent, Elazig with 52 percent, Isparta with 37 percent and Balikesir with 32 percent.
For the same period, provincial and district centers, having the maximum rate of decrease in the sulphurdioxide concentration compared to the previous winter season are; Bursa with 52 percent, Yozgat with 49 percent, Samsun with 41 percent, Afyon with 35 percent and Agri with 26 percent.
Provincial and district centers, having the maximum rate of increase in the particulate matter concentration in the winter season of 2002-2003 compared to the previous winter season are; Nigde with 375 percent, Bursa with 81 percent, Bursa (Orhangazi) and Kirikkale with 69 percent, Elazig with 49 percent and Erzurum with 40 percent.
For the same period, provincial and district centers, having the maximum rate of decrease in the particulate matter concentration compared to the previous winter season are; Yozgat with 59 percent, Kastamonu with 53 percent, Afyon with 36 percent, Malatya with 34 percent and Agri with 26 percent.
