Number Of European Tourists Visiting Turkey Decreases

ANKARA - Number of European tourists visiting Turkey in the first four months of 2003, decreased by 14.7 percent.
According to the State Institute of Statistics (DIE) data, a total of 978 thousand 82 tourists came to Turkey from European countries, which are members of the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
A total of 385 thousand 915 people came from the other European countries while 287 thousand 743 tourists came from the Commonwealth of Independent States, 233 thousand 249 tourists came from Asian countries, 38 thousand 474 tourists came from African countries and 4 thousand 322 tourists came from American continent.
Number of European tourists decreased by 14.7 percent when compared to figures of the January-April period of last year.
Number of tourists from the Commonwealth of Independent States decreased by 6.4 percent, from Asian countries dropped by 14.5 percent, from American continent reduced by 45.6 percent and from African countries decreased by 27.5 percent.
Meanwhile, a total of 665 thousand 167 foreign tourists came to Turkey in April. There were 159 thousand 141 German tourists, 67 thousand 214 Bulgarian tourists, 60 thousand 238 Dutch tourists, 46 thousand 40 Russian tourists, 28 thousand 60 British tourists, 26 thousand 191 Iranian tourists, 25 thousand 975 Greek tourists, 23 thousand 106 French tourists, 16 thousand 148 Israeli tourists and 14 thousand 562 Belgian tourists among them.
German tourists accounted for 23.9 percent among other foreign tourists visiting Turkey.
