Former President Zhelev Of Bulgaria: People Create The Culture

ISTANBUL - Former President Zhelyu Zhelev of Bulgaria said on Saturday, ''people create the culture. Physical and spiritual destruction of the humanity gives rise to factors damaging culture.''
Speaking at the Fourth International Conference of the Balkans Political Club at Istanbul's Ceylan Inter-continental Hotel, Zhelev, the founder of the club, said, ''people create the culture. Physical and spiritual destruction of the humanity gives rise to factors damaging culture.''
Stressing that the Balkan countries should protect their common culture and historical values, Zhelev said, ''we should act together in order to form a dynamic cultural policy. The Balkan countries should always be open to discussions and closed to bad intentions.''
The theme of the conference was announced earlier as ''Cultural Potential of the Balkan Countries as a Factor of Development''.
President Ion Iliescu of Romania, Prime Minister Fatos Nano of Albania and officials from Turkey, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, Moldova, Serbia and Montenegro are in attendance at the conference.
