ISTANBUL - State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullatif Sener said on Friday that the government would probably reach its growth target as of the end of the year.
Addressing the general assembly meeting of Turkey Banks Union, Sener said that the government attributed special importance to the concept of growth.
''We had annual growth rates of 9 percent in the past, but we also witnessed 8 percent of decrease in growth rates. In such conditions, all the sectors are in great difficulty...It is the main policy of the government to have a stable and regular growth trend,'' Sener noted. He stressed that economic growth could not be ensured by encouraging inflation.
Sener noted that a stable growth rate was also one of the most important targets of the government, adding that ''the figures regarding the year 2003 particularly industrial production index are very positive. It is seen that targets in growth rate and targets in industrial and service sectors will be easily reached. It seems that we will also reach surplus in agricultural growth rate.''
