TEHRAN - Some ministers of the European Union (EU) countries had asked Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul whether or not there was any preparation for a coup in Turkey during his contacts on Crete island of Greece where he attended EU-Mediterranean countries foreign ministers meeting, sources said on Wednesday.
Sources said that foreign ministers of five EU countries had reminded Gul some news stories which claimed that there was tension between the government and the army and asked him whether or not there was any preparation for coup in Turkey.
Some sources close to Foreign Minister Gul confirmed that those questions had been asked to Gul during his contacts on Crete and quoted Gul as saying that he felt ashamed due to those questions.
