APO'S FAVORITE TEACHES TURKISH
Ayfer Kaya, having code name Rozalin, with whom Abdullah Ocalan, the head of the terrorist organization, staged terrorist actions against Turkey, earns her living by teaching Turkish language in Athens.
Ayfer Kaya, the lover of Ocalan, appeared in the case on Monday which was held on charges that Ocalan entered Greece illegally. Kaya stated that she was getting education in Pantion University for four years.
Kaya had been with Ocalan during his arrival to Athens from Moscow, and during his hiding in Greek Embassy in Kenya. It was also revealed that Greece had granted asylum to Kaya.
Kaya's lawyer said she earned her living by teaching Turkish in Athens, and introduced his client as the secretary of Ocalan.

THERE WILL NOT BE ANY NEED FOR IMF MONEY AFTER 2004
International Monetary Fund (IMF) Turkey Desk Chief Juha Kahkonen met Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB) Chairman Rifat Hisarciklioglu. Speaking at the meeting Kahkonen said Turkey may not need IMF sources after 2004 in case positive developments continued.

TEARS OF A COMMANDER
National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul and Defense Minister Federico Trillo of Spain visited the scene of plane crash in which 74 people lost their lives. A high-ranking Spanish commander who informed Gonul and Trillo on the crash and showed bodies of victims, burst into tears. The Ukrainian plane crashed near Macka town of northern province of Trabzon on Monday. The plane, which was flying from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, to Zaragoza, Spain, with a refueling stop in Trabzon airport, split into two. There were 62 passengers all of whom were Spanish peacekeeping forces and 12 crew members aboard the plane.

58-PAGE LETTER FROM OCALAN TO GREECE
Abdullah Ocalan, the head of the terrorist organization PKK who was sentenced to life imprisonment, sent a 58-page letter in Kurdish to the Athens High Criminal Court in Greece through his lawyers. Athens High Criminal Court has been trying Ocalan in his absentia on charges of entering Greece illegally. Failos Kranidiotis, the Greek lawyer of Ocalan, said that they had received the handwritten letter of Ocalan. He added that the letter would be translated into Greece and submitted to the court soon.

BITTER RESPONSE TO ALLEGATIONS ON SO-CALLED ARMENIAN GENOCIDE
The Turkish History Institution (TTK) opened a mass grave in Gedikli village in Tuzluca town of eastern province of Igdir. There were bodies of 96 people including a baby in the mass grave. The grave revealed that it was Armenian gangs who committed suicide during the World War I. TTK Chairman Prof. Dr. Yusuf Halacoglu and Prof. Dr. Abdulselam Ulucam from the Yuzuncu Yil University in Van said that the Armenian gangs committed genocide against Turkish people by using sword and ax.

LIVE EUROVISION TO PRIME MINISTER
Voice of Sertab Erener reverberated hall of Council of Ministers on Tuesday. Erener sang a part of her song which won the Eurovision song contest. Erdogan gave her a golden bracelet having pearls on it as present.

IMF: THERE CAN BE NEW PROGRAM IF GOVERNMENT WANTS
International Monetary Fund (IMF) Turkey Desk Chief Juha Kahkonen started his talks with politicians, bureaucrats and the representatives of business world within the scope of 5th Review.
When asked whether or not a new economic program would be prepared instead of the program that would be completed at the end of 2004, Kahkonen said this depended on the government, stating that this could happen in case government demands it.
Kahkonen also said there was no negative progress in economic balances.

NATURAL GAS DISPUTE
Turkey is getting ready to apply to the international arbitration about the issue of price in import of natural gas from Russia through the Blue Stream Project. Energy and Natural Resources Minister Hilmi Guler said, ''we have expended efforts to solve the problem of price. Now, the issue is on the level of international arbitration.''Meanwhile., Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Kaluzhny claimed that Turkey did not fulfill commitments of the agreement and said that Turkey had made many requests to decrease the price of natural gas.

ANKARA CONCERNS
General Chief of Staff General Hilmi Ozkok's describing Greece's policy towards the Aegean as ''inciting'' has revealed the difficulty in relations between Turkey and Greece. Turkey warned that if Greece maintained its attitude, improvements in bilateral relations would be halted. Ankara said that Greek government wanted to put Turkey in the position of ''violating side'' by bringing the issue onto agenda of the European Union (EU).

KAPLAN RELEASED
Metin Kaplan, the leader of the Islamic Community-Denominational Vision, was released. Dusseldorf Supreme Provisional Court ruled that extradition of Kaplan would not be appropriate because Kaplan could be tried in Turkey in line with testimonies of his supported taken by force. Christian Kempe, the warden of Ulmer Hoh Prison in Dusseldorf, confirmed that Kaplan was released from prison a few days ago. Meanwhile, German Interior Minister Otto Schily expressed his regret over the decision of the court.

GOVERNMENT: ''THANKS''
Justice Minister Cemil Cicek thanked General Staff Chief General Hilmi Ozkok for clarifying some issues in his statement. Industry and Trade Minister Ali Coskun said that they attributed great importance to the Turkish Armed Forces and were proud of the Turkish Army.

NSC TO CONVENE TODAY
The National Security Council (NSC) will convene at the Cankaya Presidential Palace today under the chairmanship of President Ahmet Necdet Sezer. The meeting is expected to focus on the issues of Cyprus, Iraq and adjustment with the European Union (EU). Meanwhile, issues of globalization and security will be taken up at a symposium to be held at the War Academies Command tomorrow. During these two meetings, important messages are expected to be given.

The progress which started with Galatasaray's becoming the UEFA champion, continued with Turkish National Soccer team's ranking the third in the world. Surreyya Ayhan's becoming the Europe and world champion followed this. Our sportsmen got golden medals in weight lifting and wrestling.
Azra Akin, who took the Miss World crown in a contest in British capital London. Music composer Arif Mardin and author Orhan Pamuk got rewards. Bilge Ceylan's film ''Distant'' got two awards in Cannes Film Festival. Later Sertab Erener became the first in Eurovision.

SUPPORT FROM EU TO TRNC
The European Union (EU) Commission will approve and release a financial aid worth of 12 million Euro for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) next week.
The Commission will provide the TRNC with another financial aid in 2004.
While 9 million Euro of the aid will be allocated to infrastructure projects, the remaining 3 million Euro will be spent in adjustment efforts with the EU.
The EU Commission is expected to take some commercial measures to partially lift the embargo on the TRNC, and to open the gates of the EU markets to the TRNC through trade between the northern and the southern parts of the island.

''TURKEY WILL MAINTAIN ITS IMPORTANCE FOR THE UNITED STATES''
Mark Parris, the former U.S. Ambassador to Turkey and the Chairman of Association of American Friends of Turkey, said that Turkey would maintain its importance for the United States despite the motion crisis. Parris said that the United States' interest in the Middle East would continue for a long time and added that the United States would need Turkey's support for new arrangements planned to be made in the Middle East.
