W.F.P. Purchases 109 Thousand Tones Of Foodstuff From Turkey

ANKARA - Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Huseyin Dirioz said on Friday that World Food Program (WFP) had purchased 109 thousand tones of foodstuff worth of 45.5 million U.S. dollars from Turkey so far under its humanitarian aid to Iraq.
Speaking at the weekly press briefing, Dirioz said that the WFP had sent 87 thousand 739 tones of foodstuff and 138 tones of other humanitarian aid to Iraq via Turkey between April 4 and May 21, 2003.
Dirioz said that the humanitarian aid was sent to Iraq by 4 thousand 142 trucks via Turkey.
''The WFP has purchased 109 thousand tones of foodstuff (wheat, lentil, chickpea and vegetable oil) worth of 45.5 million U.S. dollars from Turkey so far under its humanitarian aid to Iraq. The WFP applied to Turkish transportation companies to send the humanitarian aid to Iraq. Gains of these companies will reach 28 million U.S. dollars as of end-June,'' he added.
